Everywhere you look there are people trying to capitalize on AI. A curosry look at the latest CES or big announcements from FAANG (MAANG?) shows that the market and corporations are chasing it because they believe it to be the next big opportunity.
But with opportunity comes scammers and dreamers, and those two people often go hand in hand. I’m going to put forward a couple uncomfortable truths here. Let’s get the big one out of the way, first.
If you need someone else to “teach you AI” you probably aren’t the type of person who will find success with it. This is also true of just about every other major skill in tech. The simple reality is that the foundational skills for AI, data analytics, programming, and cyber security are free to access and easy to find. Now why did I mention those other skills in a post about AI?
The influencers scamming people now with AI training courses did it first with those. There are a worrying number of people making a living off of telling hopeful, desperate people some secret to a six figure salary in a field that they aren’t themselves working in. Don’t trust them. Don’t give them your money.
If you do want to learn AI? Just like anything in tech, curiosity is a good starting point. If your curiosity happens to snowball into a tangible skill, that’s great! But paying for some course, or giving some influencer money is not the secret sauce to a life-changing career.
The harsh reality is that if you need someone else to teach you these things, you probably won’t enjoy working with them, anyway.
